Where are the famous people?

I’ve lived in Paris for a few years and I have yet to spot anyone famous (at least as far as I know). A couple of friends, however, have hit the celeb jackpot. The first had been in Paris less than two months, when she dined in a restaurant just a couple of tables away from Carlos Santana. Mr. Santana was apparently in the company of a couple of thin and significantly younger women. About a week later she spotted Benjamin whats-his-name, the supposed lover of the latest Mrs. Sarkozy.

Another friend almost ran into (literally) Carla Bruni herself a few weeks ago. Clearly I spend time in the non-celeb parts of town.

Paris is a bit of a let down in that sense, isn't it?

Did you know, and this is pretty amazing, but I once saw Ringo Starr.

In Montparnasse. At least I think it was Ringo, um, it could have been that guy from Fiddler on the Roof. You know, Toppy.

Actually, come to think of it, Ringo Starr doesn't - doesn't at all look like, uh, Topol.

But, he was - he was quite a long way away from me. So it actually could've been neither of them.

I have to admit, it's not really a classic, anecdote, is it?

All the best

Keith

This summer I ran into my FAV. singer/actor (comedie musicale), Merwan Rim at Disneyland and two weeks later I ran into none other than the start of Mozart, Mikelangelo Loconte- that's two star sightings from the same production in only two weeks apart! Needless to say, I was VERYYYYYY starstruck! Both gents were super nice and VERY charming!

Go hang out in Thiou on the quai d'Orsay. We've seen Karl Lagerfeld there, Jean Paul Belmondo, Mylene Farmer...oh an another French actor who's name escapes me at the moment. The food's pretty darn good too. Only the night we went, right after France's anti-smoking laws came in to effect the manager had no problem in allowing Ms. Farmer's table to light up (he even supplied the cigarettes). So...we haven't been back.

I am not one to notice famous people, but just had dinner next to Jean-Paul Gauthier. I would not have noticed, but my friend did. Then I had lunch at Rose Bakery next to Clothilde of Chocolate and Zucchini... and spotted French movie star Emmanuelle Devos on the street filming at Pigalle. All in the course of two days.
