London

I’m back in Paris after a 3-day business trip to London and my hate-hate relationship with the city may now be on the track to a less pronounced state of dislike. This past trip across the channel was surprisingly not unpleasant. I still wouldn’t say that I like the place but now I’m starting to think that the brit might be right when he says London has some nice bits...

London is nice--but it ain't Paris. Happy you found some things to like about London.

I have found London to be a lovely place. I don't have a hate for it, but LBR's is right - it ain't Paris.

belette and f.o.t. - I agree with both of you, London can't hold a candle to Paris.

Never been in London myself though I'd love to. I was wondering whether your hate towards it may have something to do with the fact of your being from the US. Maybe Americans have a pre-thought of English people, as we Spaniards have of Southamericans ("so far away, so close" type)... Have you experienced this hate only toward London or also to Britain in general...?
Apart from that, Paris is just so beautiful though both cities must definitely have completely different and charming characters.
Hope I'll be able to visit Britain soon (it's sometimes so difficult (expensive) to leave this island...!)

Hi JD, I don't think my dislike of London has to do with being American, because in general I would say that Americans have more negative perceptions of the French than the English. I've just never been impressed by London. I've been to only a couple of other places in England, so I can't speak about the UK in general. Although I'd love to visit Scotland. FYI - my boyfriend is English, so the island can't be all bad :)
