Hi, welcome back!
Don't think this way of parking is only French, here in Spain is just as difficult as it must be there to cross any street. I normally think of people pushing baby strollers, that must be nerve-racking...
I'd call it southern parking instead...

jd - true I could've called it Southern European parking but where's the alliteration in that? :)

tigre - me too! the cars aren't there anymore, at least not like that, so they managed somehow

function - not sure why the driver didn't do that since I've seen it a few times. I'll take a pic the next time I pass one.
