2 hours waiting outside in the heat, 45 minutes waiting inside with no air-con for 2 minutes to get the récépissé... French bureaucracy at its finest!

Do your posts on French bureaucracy mean that English and American bureaucracies are so well organized and efficient that you just walk in and get your needed documentation in just a few minutes?
FYI I had to wait 2 hours at the American Embassy in Paris just to give the documentation to renew my daughter's passeport...
No, the posts don't mean that. I've never had to deal with British bureaucracy since I've never lived there. As far as the US, it might be similar for foreigners, but I've never had to wait as long for documents (driver's license, passport) as I do here in France. I've certainly never gone for a document in the US and been told that it wasn't ready and I'd have to go somewhere else. But again, it might be different for non-citizens.
Ha ha... What can I say, young lass?!
